Meet the Founders of BCFI
Mike and Jill founded BCFI with hope of being a part of the solution to the many challenges and hardships they have witness in the schools and communities they have served for over 20 years. After many years of observation and prayer, the Lord led them to focus on building up and supporting children and families. As of 2022, Mike and Jill have a family of seven, with two adult children, two elementary aged children, and a baby. As they seek to build and grow their own healthy and whole family, they desire to bring others along the same path and journey.
In March of 2020, the Building Children and Families Initiative was birthed and officially formed as a corporation in Texas, and in June of 2020, we became an official 501c3. Over the last two years, we have prayed, fasted, and prepared for what we believe is our mission.
Our mission is to help build and develop healthy children and families by providing biblically-based books, educational materials, community partnership supports, and other life-changing resources to empower, restore, and inspire growth in individuals and families so that they may live the abundantly blessed life that God wants each of us to live. Our vision is to bring the light of Jesus into the darkness of this world by sharing Biblical life principles and resources that can apply to daily living through self-reflection and self-regulation practices.
As educators, mentors, youth ministry servants, and community engagers for the last 20 years, we have both witnessed the enemy’s attempt to divide, destroy, and break down children and the family unit. Of course, most recently, we have all seen the continued devastation and division that resulted from the Covid-19 pandemic and the social unrest that has further contributed to the brokenness of many. Our hearts have carried the burdens of the children and families we have been blessed to serve over the years, as well as the hardships that we currently see in the world, and the Lord has led us to try and be a part of the solution.
There are a lot of resources and methods available in the world today for “self-help” or “self-care.” Many of these things can be helpful, but we believe that anything without Jesus is nothing, and Jesus is being replaced and removed from many of the solutions the world is presenting to address our problems today. We believe this is a grave mistake.
A few years back, a former superintendent of a large school district spoke at a conference and said something that was a catalyst for the birth of BCFI. He made a point of noting how great the provided information and strategies were and how exciting the conference was, but he stated that he had attended dozens of educational conferences through his 40+ year career just like that one, but the state of education remained the same if not worse. He challenged the group to reflect on what was missing. Why are we circling the same mountains yearly, decade after decade, without lasting results? As I pondered his question and asked for the Lord’s revelation, God revealed to me that He was what was missing. We can’t take God out of everything and then wonder why things aren’t getting better long-term. We can’t water down God in an effort not to offend others and then complain and blame God when bad things happen in the world. We must return to making Jesus the center of everything in our lives.
We believe it is up to believers to change the narrative, stop watering down Jesus’ message of hope, and start sharing the Word of God in its whole truth. For this reason, our first children’s resource that you find in this packet is pointing them directly to the cross. We are starting with the children because we believe it is crucial that we, the body of Christ, begin to interrupt the messaging coming from the world. Additionally, we believe that children can change the dynamic of the family unit and even inspire their parents to come to know God in a personal way.
The ultimate goal of BCFI is to introduce Jesus Christ to every child in this world and to provide them and the entire family with resources and materials for discipleship, biblical teaching principles for everyday real-life application, and community resources to support the family. We believe that advancing the kingdom of God in the lives of children and families and meeting their needs and challenges with practical support services is the answer to the troubles faced today. The Lord has been developing the mission and vision of BCFI for years, and now it is time for us to act.
We ask that you partner with us to accomplish this mission. We believe it is essential for people to believe in the missions they support wholeheartedly, so we don’t ask you to do this through blind faith. We are sending you a FREE copy of the first book, which is also the first unit in the primary curriculum that will provide a more in-depth exploration of salvation so that you can get a glimpse of the mission and how it will be carried out. We ask that you take the time to read the book and ask the Lord if you should be a part of sharing the message relayed in the pages to the masses. If the Lord touches your heart to be a part of the mission of BCFI, then we ask you to consider becoming a monthly partner. Our long-term goal (and yes, we know it is high-reaching) is to be able to share the biblical knowledge and practices found within the books and curriculum we are developing with every household in America and across the world.
It is our desire to provide these resources and the accompanying curriculums FREE to all in need, but in order to do that, we need partners. ALL of the book proceeds go directly to BCFI so we can increase our publishing efforts and give as many resources to as many children and families as possible. Eleven books and written and video curricula are currently being developed for children. In addition, a twelve-chapter adult book that covers the 11-Building Blocks is presently being edited and prepared for publication, with an accompanying curriculum to be developed in the near future.
